The Cañada region is the smallest in the state and is made up of two districts: Cuicatlán and Teotitlán. It is distinguished by its mountains, deep canyons, and rivers. Its economy is based primarily on agriculture, livestock farming, and local trade. Traditional crafts such as embroidered textiles, palm weaving, reed basketry, and pottery are also produced. Languages such as Mazatec, Cuicatec, and Chinantec are spoken in the region, in addition to Spanish.
