The Isthmus of Tehuantepec region is located in the southeast of the state of Oaxaca. Its economy is based on commerce, livestock farming, agriculture, fishing, and wind energy generation. It is also known for its salt production and handicrafts, such as hand-embroidered textiles, jewelry, and pottery. Several indigenous communities live in this region. Languages such as Isthmus Zapotec, Huave, and Zoque are spoken, in addition to Spanish.
