Northern Sierra Region /Ruta Artesanal

The Northern Sierra Region of Oaxaca comprises the Sierra Juárez, the Sierra Mixe, and parts of the Chinantla and Sierra Mazateca mountain ranges. It is characterized by its pine and oak forests, its temperate and humid climate, and its mountainous landscapes. In this region, indigenous languages ​​such as Zapotec and Mixe are spoken, in addition to Spanish. Its economy is based on the cultivation of corn and beans, as well as the production of handicrafts. Among these are wool and silk garments woven on backstrap looms, pottery, traditional embroidery, and wood carvings.
