The Coast Region of Oaxaca is located in the southern part of the state. It is distinguished by its beaches, warm climate, and great natural and cultural diversity. Its economy is based on tourism, agriculture, fishing, coffee cultivation, and the production of handicrafts, such as textiles and gourd carvings. Several indigenous languages are spoken in this region, including variants of Mixtec, Zapotec, and Chatino, in addition to Spanish.
